Stress and hormones do NOT work well together.

Here are 3 signs that stress is messing up with your hormones:

  1. Belly fat
  2. Forgetfulness
  3. low thyroid symptoms like sluggishness and fatigue

Weight gain is NOT about just eating too much! In women over 40, it’s symptomatic of serious imbalances that lead to cardiovascular disease.

It’s even more significant that women over 40 are more likely to experience high blood pressure and other cardiovascular issues.

Women of color are 1.6 times more likely to experience high blood pressure than white women.

There are 4 other causes of weight gain.

#1: Adrenal imbalance. In lay terms, adrenal imbalance occurs when during times of stress, our adrenal glands release excess cortisol and adrenaline. This can lead to elevated blood sugar levels, followed by weight gain.

#2: Insulin resistance. To put it simply, insulin resistance occurs when as a result of eating too much sugary, fatty and salty “foods”, our blood sugar levels rise, again followed by weight gain.

#3: During peri-menopause and post-menopause, when our hormones change, the body naturally stores fat in the belly as a source of estrogen. If we do not keep the demand for the supply of food we eat by exercising, moving, then weight gain will follow.

#4: Estrogen dominance. Estrogen levels can raise because of antibiotics found in conventionally raised meats, dairy products, as well as environmental toxic chemicals in cleaning and skin care products and plastics in the form of BPA.

So what are we to do?

First, we have to stop hiding our head in the sand! Many women I speak to want to lose weight for aesthetic reasons… think again.

Then, we take action.

First, practice yoga. My very good friend who just had a wake up call, shared with me yesterday that she’s been practicing her Sun Salutations with mantras with the recording I did a while back. And she’s seen a significant drop in her blood pressure. Of course I know that, but it feels really good that she knows where to turn to.

Second, begin to prepare your own meals. Here are my 7 tips to lose weight sustainably.

Third, throw your cleaning products out the window, (of course I mean recycle them) and buy healthier versions like 7th Generation. And look for healthier version of your skin care products.

Last but most importantly, get support. Find someone who can guide you through the process of changing your lifestyle so instead of working AGAINST you, it works FOR you to do what it is you were brought on this earth to do! Hire me.
